Chile, India and Morocco may be not considered as so called “wealthy” are “developed” countries. But as per The Climate Change Performance Index 2021, these countries are in top ten performing countries for their effort to fix the issue of climate change. While rich and wealthy USA, Saudi Arabia and Iran are the worst performers.
Climate change issue is the global issue. It’s not limited to one region or one part or one country. I don’t think It is only the government’s responsibility. I believe that It is the moral duty of each one of us to be conscious about our actions which affects the environment. I think its very simple the more we destroy the nature, the more problem would come, and climate change is the reaction of the same process.
Post 2014 India has consistently improving its rank as one of best performing nation and working towards the solutions of climate change problem despite the 1.3 billion population and few overpopulated and polluted cities. As an Indian I can tell you that it is culturally very important for an Indian to be respectful of nature. I am not talking about some exceptions which by the way exists everywhere. I am talking about basic belief of an Indian who would see the divine in every particle, when you see the divine in every particle, everything becomes sacred. Then you don’t want to destroy the sacredness of the Earth. When you hear Namaste, which is greeting to the divine in you.
I see that the governments especially in western countries would spend millions of dollars to research on recycling and sustainability in order to protect the nature. They do the research, and the research will bring some solution and few year later the same researchers would say oops! Our solution fixed few things, but it brought newer problems. So now spend again millions of dollars to fix the newer problems. And this keeps happening. Reason I believe is that these governments and the eco system around them aren’t serous about the problem. They keep funding themselves in the name of protecting the environment. For me It looks a next level of corruption.
If any government is serious about the especially for environment. All they have to do is send few people to visit the tribes of Forrest, practicing people of ancient civilisations and They would learn how the people have been living in harmony with nature. We talk about protecting the nature, sustainability or minimalism. These things are naturally engrained with people who are close to the nature.
I think most of us would accept that there is a problem with the environment. Maybe not much visible in some parts of the world. But a large part of the world is already experiencing it. Especially the animals from the Forrest who are the worst sufferer in last four to five hundred years. So, what we do to fix this. Well, it’s a good start that we know the problem. Next is to find out what is the cause of the problem. Then we can work towards the solution. But only hashtag activism would not fix it. Don’t follow others. Do your own research and lead your own life.
